FILM: Under the Sea

Apr 1, 09 thru Jun 20, 10

In one of the most beautifully filmed IMAX adventures ever, Under the Sea submerges moviegoers in remote undersea reefs to share intimate moments with a vast array of mysterious, rare, and colorful creatures.

Under the Sea explores some of the most exotic and isolated locations on Earth, including the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Triangle islands of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. The amazing detail and clarity of the IMAX format effectively places audiences in a submarine’s front viewing bubble, allowing them to witness up close undersea life forms they will likely never be able to see any other way.

Among the characters brought to life by the filmmakers and Jim Carrey’s engaging narration are three Flamboyant Cuttlefish mating, a shy Leafy Sea Dragon incognito, a group of playful Australian Sea Lions, a venomous Lionfish, a giant Stingray with freeloading fish in tow, a Jellyfish-chomping Sea Turtle, and a wide diversity of carefully camouflaged bottom feeders.

As with most nature films made in the last decade, Under the Sea reveals the adverse impact of global climate change on these unique habitats, whose disappearance will result in the extinction of these and many other creatures that have yet to be discovered. Fortunately the message, while troubling, is not heavy-handed, as the film encourages audiences to take full pleasure in this amazing underwater wonderland.
