Dinosaurs! Alive 3-D

Oct 5, 09 thru Nov 30, 09

Are descendants of dinosaurs alive and still walking, and flying, among us? Learn the answers in Dinosaurs Alive, an engrossing documentary film that recreates newly discovered creatures through the magic of eye-popping 3-D animation.

Presented this fall at the San Diego Natural History Museum, Dinosaurs Alive traces the live-action adventure of some of the world’s most preeminent paleontologists as they dig up new evidence from two major hotbeds for fossil hunting in Mongolia’s remote Gobi Desert and the mysterious red buttes of Ghost Ranch, New Mexico.

Their findings are brought to life through state-of-the-art and scientifically accurate 3-D computer animations that take viewers up close and personal with how these creatures looked, moved in herds, nested in colonies, protected their young, hunted and fought one another, and met their demise. Weaving the live-action and animated sequences together is the narration provided by Michael Douglas.

One of the most dramatic moments in the film features the fight to the death between a Velociraptor and a Protoceratops as a sand dune sweeps over them and kills them, neatly fossilizing their encounter for modern scientists to discover.

Dinosaurs Alive
also re-animates other rarely seen and relatively unknown dinosaurs like the menacing Tarbosaurus (a close relative to T-Rex), the diminutive Coelphysis, and curious-looking feathered dinosaurs. From the tiniest creatures of the Triassic period to the monsters of the Jurassic and Cretaceous, the entire age of dinosaurs is examined in vivid detail.
