She has subsequently been given the highest award that any Indian artist can receive and has engendered a whole ‘school’ of art, consequently changing the entire economy of her remote village. The exhibition that will take place at Mingei International is to be a blend of Sonabai’s sculptures, those of other artists she has influenced and photographs and videos — all presented in a very unusual manner.
