From Point Loma's historic lighthouse to the Sweetwater National Wildlife Refuge, sample an exciting array of museums, public art works, natural wonders, unique shopping, and fine dining, all offering spectacular views of the bay. Feeling adventuresome? Try a harbor excursion or whale watching trip. Waxing nostalgic? Check out the Maritime Museum and USS Midway. Just want to eat, play, and shop? No problem. Seaport Village and Coronado have something to suit everyone's tastes.
Pasta or seafood? The Embarcadero or Portwood Pier Plaza? With such variety, it's hard to decide where to eat on the Big Bay. A few highlights include:
If you're looking for fresh quality seafood coupled with friendly home-style service, Anthony's Fish Grotto is sure to delight you. From fresh seasonal catches to their famous fish and chips, Anthony's has been serving San Diegans and visitors to America's finest city their favorite seafood specialties for more than sixty years.
The Fish Market restaurant is a waterfront landmark in downtown San Diego, and is recognized as the premier destination for seafood and San Diego bay views. The downstairs restaurant offers casual dining, and features a comfortable oyster bar and cocktail bar, as well as a first-rate sushi bar. The second story Top of the Market lets you enjoy views from Point Loma to the Coronado Bridge in a fine-dining setting.
To say the history of the Bali Hai Restaurant is "colorful" would be an understatement. The Bali Hai was the first Tiki temple erected on Shelter Island and was originally called "The Hut", a subsidiary of Christian's Hut in Newport Beach, California. Only two years after it's opening in 1953, the Hut's manager, Tom Ham, took over the ailing business, gave it a new name (after the movie Bali Hai was released) and transformed it into the most happening place in San Diego. Today, the Bali Hai is making changes to accommodate a new generation of Tiki lovers, and to provide people with a great restaurant / meeting place / watering hole wherein they can reminisce about the bygone Tiki era and discuss the future of Tiki things to come!
