Indigo-dyed textiles are central to many cultures on the continent of Africa. Indigo blue is symbolic, referring to water, sky, coolness, and life itself. Mingei International’s Chief Curator, Emily Hanna, will discuss indigo traditions from across the continent, from Coptic Egyptian textiles, to Nigerian dye vats dating to the 15th century.
