AIGA Intrépido Speaker Series: Susan Merritt
In this lecture, Professor Emerita of the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University, Susan Merritt will talk about the concept and curation process for the exhibition, "Toying with Design." Susan will also share insight into some of the objects in the exhibition and their designers. Following the presentation in the Theater, she’ll lead a walk-through in the gallery.

Enjoy a uniquely-San Diego experience at one of our city's most iconic historic landmarks. “The Kimono Reimagined” Mesa College Fashion Program/ Vision Art Museum

The Kimono Reimagined project is a collaboration between Visions Art Museum (Liberty Station, San Diego) and San Diego Mesa College Fashion Program. Nineteen teams composed of a fashion student and a stitcher from the Visions Art Museum community worked together to redesign and reconstruct kimonos, obis, haoris, and sashes to become a fashion garment. Each garment contains some element of stitchery and/or embellishment created by the stitcher using hand or machine techniques.

A World of Beads
This exhibition features highlights from Mingei’s bead collection and explores the materials from which beads are made. Ranging from plant and animal materials to fabricated metal and glass, these single beads and beaded objects were made by different cultures from around the world and were largely acquired by Mingei International Museum from The Bead Museum in Prescott, Arizona.

Sergio Hernández: Embers of Oaxaca
Sergio Hernández (b. 1957, Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca, México) is among the leading contemporary Mexican artists today and is currently based in Oaxaca in southern Mexico. After completing his studies at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Hernández gained international recognition after exhibiting his work in France, Italy, Germany, and Spain.
