Exploring Nature, Tradition, and Identity with Porfirio Gutiérrez
Join Porfirio Gutiérrez, a Zapotec master dyer and artist based in Ventura, California, as he examines a rich history of Zapotec weaving legacy and ancestral knowledge of natural dyeing. He will discuss how the seasonal cycles of nature and availability of materials inform the complexity of transforming nature into artistic materials. Gutiérrez will share his use of these elements and create works that conversations with experiences of migrations, indigeneity in contemporary art.
