On the northeast side of the park is a gateway into three trails:

The 2.3-mile trail follows a popular course used in high school cross-country competitions. Type: ½ grass, ½ dirt trail with some rocky areas. Difficulty level: Easy. Follow the #11 round red trail markers.

The 2.4-mile trail goes through not-often-seen natural areas of Balboa Park. Includes major elevation changes. Type: Mostly dirt trail with some rocky sections. Difficulty level: Medium. Follow the #12 square green trail markers.

The 3.3-mile trail features major elevation changes, with some portions requiring traveling on road shoulders. Type: A mix of concrete walkways and road shoulders. Difficulty level: Medium. Follow the #13 square light-orange trail markers
