Parking in Balboa Park remains free (except for December Nights) until January 5, 2026, unless the City of San Diego deems otherwise.

Parking Rates
Paid parking lots within the Balboa Park Cultural District will be enforced from 8 am to 8 pm, with discounts available for verified City of San Diego residents. To view the City’s Balboa Park Lots map, click here.
The cost of each parking lot will vary, depending on how close it is to the center of the Cultural District. Parking rates are set by the City of San Diego. Level 1 Parking Lots: Verified resident rate: $5 for up to four hours; $8 full day; Nonresident rate: $10 for up to four hours; $16 full day

*Parking fee payments in lots within Balboa Park may be made at meter kiosks. However, to receive the City resident discount in the parking lots, users will have to register online and purchase parking in advance.

Alcazar Parking Lot
The Alcazar parking lot is located off El Prado and Pan American E Rd and adjacent to the Mingei International Museum. This parking lot provides easy walking access to: Alcazar Garden, Mingei International Museum, ARTIFACT at Mingei, CRAFT CAFÉ at Mingei, ICA San Diego, Central Campus, Museum of Us, The Old Globe, Panama 66, The San Diego Museum of Art, and Timken Museum of Art. You can also access the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum, United National International Gift Shop and House of Pacific Relations International Cottages, Palm Canyon Trail, and Rube Powell Archery Range. There is a tram stop nearby this parking lot, located centrally in the Plaza de Panama between the Mingei International Museum and House of Hospitality.

Bea Evanson Parking Lot
The Bea Evanson parking lot is located on Village Place Rd and on the east side of the San Diego Natural History Museum. This parking lot provides easy walking access to: the San Diego Natural History Museum, Fleet Science Center, Spanish Village Art Center, Botanical Building and Lily Pond, Casa del Prado Theatre, Floral Association, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, San Diego Junior Theater, San Diego Youth Symphony, San Diego Zoo, and the Balboa Park Carousel. You can also cross the El Prado pedestrian bridge to the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden and Desert Garden.

Casa de Balboa Parking Lot
The Casa de Balboa parking lot is accessible from Park Blvd located behind the Casa de Balboa building which houses the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, San Diego History Center, Balboa Art Conservation Center, Cafe in the Park, and Committee of 100. This parking lot is right next to the House of Hospitality including Balboa Park Visitors Center, the Prado Restaurant, and offices for Forever Balboa Park, Balboa Park Cultural Partnership/Balboa Park Explorer, and Balboa Park Online Collaborative. It also provides walking access to the Timken Museum of Art, Botanical Building and Lily Pond, and Casa del Prado classrooms and offices: Floral Association, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, San Diego Junior Theater, and San Diego Youth Symphony.

Palisades Parking Lot
The Palisades parking lot (previously Pan American Plaza parking lot) is accessible by way of Presidents Way & Pan American E Rd is located in front of the Comic-Con Museum. This parking lot provides walking access to: the San Diego Automotive Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, Starlight Bowl, San Diego Municipal Gymnasium, Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater, and the United National International Gift Shop and House of Pacific Relations International Cottages. It is also a short walk to Spreckels Organ Pavilion. There is a tram stop located right in the center of the parking lot near the accessible parking spots. There is also a designated drop off/pick up area in front of the International Cottages lawn.

The South Carousel parking lot is located on Park Blvd and can be accessed by way of Zoo Pl. This parking lot is close to Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park Carousel, and San Diego Zoo. It also provides walking access to: the San Diego Natural History Museum, Fleet Science Center, Botanical Building and Lily Pond, Casa del Prado Theatre, Floral Association, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, San Diego Junior Theater, and San Diego Youth Symphony.

There is a tram stop located nearby, across the street near the public restrooms.

The Federal parking lot is accessible by way of Presidents Way from Park Blvd and is located behind the Federal Building that houses the Comic-Con Museum and continues behind Starlight Bowl and the San Diego Air & Space Museum. This parking lot provides walking access to: the Comic-Con Museum, San Diego Air & Space Museum, San Diego Automotive Museum, Starlight Bowl, San Diego Municipal Gymnasium, Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater, and the United National International Gift Shop and House of Pacific Relations International Cottages. It is also a short walking distance to WorldBeat Center and Centro Cultural de la Raza. There is a tram stop located next to the accessible parking at the front of the parking lot.

The Marston Point parking lot is accessible by way of Balboa Dr and located on the south side of the western mesa off of Balboa Dr. The parking lot is close to the San Diego Old Fire Alarm Communications Building, Bridle Trail, San Diego Chess Club, San Diego Horseshoe Club, Balboa Club, and green space. It is also a short walking distance to Nate’s Point Dog Park and San Diego Lawn Bowling Club.

Additional Parking Information
The new parking plan recently approved by the City Council ensures that verified City of San Diego residents can receive discounted parking, and preserves some free parking options, including for park employees and volunteers. Optional monthly, quarterly and annual parking passes will be available for purchase for both verified residents of the City of San Diego and for non-residents, who will pay a higher rate. ADA Accessible Parking
Parking will continue to be free, with no time limit, at parking meters in and near Balboa Park for those with a Disabled Person license plate or placard. Free ADA parking will also be available in the parking lots while parked in the blue parking spaces marked for disabled parking.
Metered Parking
Meters will be installed on roads within the park including Balboa Dr, El Prado, Juniper Rd, Presidents Way, Quince Dr, Zoo Dr and Village Pl. There will also be meters on some adjacent roads including Sixth Ave, from Elm to Upas streets, and Park Blvd, from Village Pl to Presidents Way. Meter rates will be $2.50 per hour, up to $10 a day and will be enforced between 8 am and 8 pm daily.
Meters outside the park on Sixth Ave and Park Blvd will have a four-hour maximum. Meters take credit cards, Apple Pay/Google Pay or coins. Download the Park Smarter App to pay using your smartphone.
San Diego Zoo Parking Lot
The San Diego Zoo parking lot is off Park Blvd and Zoo Pl. This parking lot is managed and parking fees are set by the San Diego Zoo. Learn more at zoo.sandiegozoo.org/parking.
Balboa Park Tram

With stops in or near four parking lots (Alcazar Parking Lot, Organ Pavilion Parking Lot, Palisades Parking Lot, and Upper and Lower Inspiration Point Parking Lot), the free Balboa Park Tram loops around the Cultural District making 5 stops throughout the day to get you within a 10-minute walk to many of the Cultural District’s most popular destinations. Trams operate daily and leave from the Inspiration Point parking lot at Park Boulevard and Presidents Way every 10 to 15 minutes, from 9 am to 6 pm.
Beginning January 5, 2026, tram service hours will be expanded to run from 8 am to 8 pm. An on-call shuttle will also be available for park-based employees and volunteers from 7 am to 9 am and from 6 pm to 11 pm.
Balboa Park Employees and Volunteers
Verified employees and volunteers of Balboa Park organizations with leaseholds and special use permits may park for free in any Level 2 and Level 3 lots within Balboa Park, and at metered spots on roads within the park’s West Mesa, while working or volunteering in the park. Reminder: An on-call shuttle will also be available for park-based employees and volunteers from 7 am to 9 am and from 6 pm to 11 pm.
